Brilliant and utterly apt. —Will Ackerman, Musician, Producer, Founder of Windham Hill Records
Brad Schumann’s debut CD, befittingly entitled, 30 Year Detour, is a long awaited musical dream that grammy winner, Will Ackerman, (Imaginary Road Studios), along with Schumann and engineer, Tom Eaton, have artfully produced into a reality.
Schumann’s warm, passionate vocals, as well as his solid performance on guitar, meld to deliver his deeply felt, diverse light rock originals. He is backed by a long list of recognizable industry giants such as Tony Levin noted for his bass work for King Crimson, Paul Simon, James Taylor; Drummer Steve Holley (Paul McCartney, Elton John), the late T Bone Wolk (Hall and Oates, Carly Simon), Jeff Pevar (Crosby, Stills & Nash, David Foster, Rickie Lee Jones), Premik Russel Tubbs (Santana, Whitney Houston), Richie Furay (Buffalo Springdfield, Poco, Souther-Hillman-Furay), and renown guitarist, Will Ackerman, along with 9 other brilliant musicians.
There are songs of introspection and encouragement like Gonna Cross That River, Come To The Sea, Live, and Lighthouse; songs of truth and tragedy, like You Shine and They Don’t Believe You; and songs of life and love, such as Crossing the Sierra and That’s What You Do To Me.
Taking a literal thirty year detour that led to a healthy career as a contractor, as well as a devoted family man, Schumann tends to his songs like he has cared for his family or the foundations upon which he has built. Each song is crafted with loving mindfulness, sometimes allowing the songs months to mature.
“The songs come from trying to creatively dive into the real stuff of life,” says Schumann. “The things that matter most – faith, love, survival and hope for a better day. Never giving up – and learning, always learning, from the journey.”
